The first chapter of Joshua tells us about
a particular man who was a candidate for a
miracle. His associate, Moses, had just died
and Joshua was facing the task of taking
5 million notoriously rebellious Israelites into
the Promised Land.

God said to him, Now, Joshua, here’s the
situation: “Moses my servant is dead; now therefore
arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this
people, unto the land which I do give to them,
even to the children of Israel” (verse 2).

Notice that God didn’t tell Joshua about
all the trouble he was going to meet when
he got over there. He didn’t tell him about
the wall at Jericho. He didn’t tell him there
would be fierce giants to defeat.

He just said, “Arise and go, Joshua.
You’re a candidate for a miracle.”
Then He said, If you’ll get up and go…

Every place that the sole of your
foot shall tread upon, that have I given
unto you, as I said unto Moses. From
the wilderness and this Lebanon even
unto the great river, the river Euphrates,
all the land of the Hittites, and unto
the great sea toward the going down of
the sun, shall be your coast. There shall
not any man be able to stand before
thee all the days of thy life: as I was
with Moses, so I will be with thee: I
will not fail thee, nor forsake thee
(verses 3-5).

Look again at that last verse. Notice God
didn’t say that no one could stand against
Joshua during this “Promised Land
Campaign” he was about to begin. He said,
“All the days of your life, Boy, nobody will
be able to get in your face and knock you
down” (my paraphrase, of course).

God told Joshua he’d be a candidate for a
miracle all his life. That’s good news, isn’t it?
“Yeah, Brother Jesse, but that promise
was for Joshua, not you and me.”

God is no respecter of persons! God didn’t
love Joshua any more than He loves us. So if
we’ll do what God told him to do, no one
will be able to stand before us either.
